EYE Gets Wired!
Mobile, Alabama - June 30, 2009

WHAT:
200 EYE exiting 4th & 5th grade campers become electrical engineers for a week as they team together to design technology such as a working electrical alarm circuit and more. The seven schools involved in the EYE Camps are Clark, Dickson, Dodge, Fonde, Griggs, Kate Shepard and Meadowlake Elementary Schools.

Campers will spend mornings on field trips or at EYE schools and afternoons at the Gulf Coast Exploreum

Dickson Elementary/Exploreum EYE Camp: July 6-10
Dodge Elementary/Exploreum EYE Camp: July 13-17
Griggs Elementary/Exploreum EYE Camp: July 20-24
8:00 AM - 3:00 PM daily

WHY:
As born engineers, children are fascinated with building, taking things apart, and figuring out how they work. Engaging Youth in Engineering (EYE) is a workforce and economic development initiative to bring relevance to the K-12 math and science curriculum. Engineering is used as a hook to motivate students to study and take more math and science. Engaging Youth in Engineering is being piloted in nine schools that send children to Davidson High School. Its purpose is to produce high-school graduates eager and able to meet Mobile's growing need for a highly-skilled workforce - at all levels.

EYE is a program of the Mobile Area Education Foundation in collaboration with the J. L. Bedsole Foundation, the Mobile County Public School System, the University of South Alabama and area business and industry.
