Explore Sundays and Get Half-Off!
Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Break out of your Sunday rut without breaking the bank! The Gulf Coast Exploreum is offering a 50 percent discount on all admission prices every Sunday through July 4. While the prices may be low, the fun definitely won’t be!

“The Exploreum has been Mobile’s number one family attraction for eight straight years,” said Assistant Director Caroline Etherton. “The discounted Sunday admission will make it even more affordable for area families to have a day of fun.”

Visitors can enjoy the Exploreum’s permanent exhibits including Hands on Hall, Minds on Hall and My BodyWorks, as well as special programming through the Science Center’s new Explore TEC exhibit. Visitors ages 12 and older are invited to participate in Explore TEC workshops that are free with Exploreum admission. Explore TEC workshops focus on a different software program each month and will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays.

During the month of May, visitors will design, create and print out a 3D mechanical part using SolidWorks 2010, which is used by more than 85 percent of the world’s top ranked engineering institutions. During June, workshop participants will use the GEARS Invention and Design System to solve engineering challenges while working in teams. GEARS Kits are heavy duty rapid prototyping tools and mechanisms that engage visitors of all ages in the engineering design process. In July, participants can be part of the next generation of architectural engineers by using Graphisoft ArchiCAD 13. The Computer Aided Design software is used by more than 60 percent of the top architectural schools in the country.

Be sure to make a return visit to the Exploreum July 5 through Oct. 24 to see its newest traveling exhibit called “Reptile Planet.” The exhibit will showcase live reptiles from 20 different countries, including Burmese pythons, snake-necked turtles, veiled chameleons and American alligators. An interactive zoological experience, “Reptile Planet” will leave families with a newfound appreciation for these often misunderstood creatures. Tickets for “Reptile Planet” will go on sale June 1 at Exploreum.com.

Sunday hours of operation for the Exploreum are from noon to 5 p.m. Admission prices and more information can be found at Exploreum.com.
