Monday, Mar 01, 2010

The Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center today announced that it would be extending its operating hours for upcoming Fridays and Saturdays due to demand for Dinosaurs Downtown. Already, more than 35,000 individuals have experienced the traveling exhibit.

Beginning March 5, the Exploreum will remain open until 7:00 p.m. on Fridays and 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays, with the exceptions of March 13, March 20, April 9 and April 10 due to already booked special events. On Fridays with the extended hours, the Dinosaurs Alive IMAX film will add 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. show times. On Saturdays with the extended hours, the IMAX film will add a 5:00 p.m. show time. The Dinosaurs Alive IMAX is presented by WKRG News 5. The extended hours will last through the run of Dinosaurs Downtown, which will be in Mobile until April 25.

“These extended operating hours will allow families more opportunities to see Dinosaurs Downtown,” said Hela Sheth, director of marketing and public relations.

Guests may purchase tickets online at Exploreum.com for the extended hours and IMAX films or at the Box Office upon entry.

A thrilling, full-sensory exhibit, Dinosaurs Downtown has transformed the Exploreum’s outdoor courtyard into a Jurassic-era habitat with jungle foliage, watering holes and a waterfall. Twelve animatronic dinos are featured in the exhibit including a 17’ tall Tyrannosaurus Rex, a 19’ tall Brachiosaurus, a 22’ long Dilophosaurus and many other popular species.
