DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, July 13 from 11am-2pm for a Superpower Dog adoption event! We have partnered with Animal Rescue Foundation in Theodore\, Alabama (http://www.animalrescuemobile.org/) to help find forever homes for our furry friends. \nThis event is in conjunction with our summer IMAX Dome feature film\, Superpower Dogs. (We will also be giving out some SUPER awesome swag from the Superpower Dogs film and PEDIGREE Foundation as well!) \nThe event will take place in the Exploreum atrium in an effort to avoid any potential inclement weather and\, of course\, to keep the pups out of the summer heat. \nGuests can enter the adoption area in the atrium for free but if they decide to visit the exhibits or IMAX they can get in for a discounted $10 combo price for both. Exploreum members can attend the event and exhibits for free (IMAX additional fee). \nMore about ARF: \nARF is a non-profit\, adoption guarantee animal shelter serving the Greater Mobile area. We believe every life matters. Our mission is to rescue homeless and abandoned dogs and cats from overcrowded animal shelters and provide the care they need\, until we can place them in permanent\, loving homes. Through outreach and education\, we advocate for animals in our community and are committed to bringing about a time when there are no more homeless pets. We have been serving the community since 1995. \nMore about Superpower Dogs: \nJoin an immersive IMAX adventure to experience the life-saving superpowers and extraordinary bravery of some of the world’s most amazing dogs. In this inspiring true story narrated by Chris Evans\, our best friends are also real-life superheroes. Journey around the globe to meet remarkable dogs who save lives and discover the powerful bond they share with their human partners. \nFollow ‘Halo’\, a rookie puppy training to join one of the most elite disaster response teams in America. Meet ‘Henry’ \, an avalanche rescue expert in the mountains of British Columbia\, ‘Reef’\, a Newfoundland lifeguard with the Italian coastguard\, ‘Ricochet’ \, a Californian surf legend helping people with special needs\, and the Bloodhound brothers\, ‘Tipper and Tony’\, who are leading the fight to save endangered species in Africa. \nAs we discover the incredible abilities of dogs and the astonishing science behind their superpowers\, we’ll never look at our best friends the same way again!

SUMMARY:Alabama Task Force One - K9 Team Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a look into the real world of Search and Rescue K9 training in conjunction with our summer IMAX film\, Superpower Dogs! \nMore on AL-TF1 K9:\nWe are a team of dedicated volunteers that train weekly to be the best search and rescue team that we can be. The dogs are our personal pets but when they go to work – watch out! They are a force to be reckoned with. They love their job and we love being on the other end of the leash! \nWe train for what is called ‘Urban Search and Rescue.’ What this means is that our dogs are trained to find people that are trapped or buried in rubble from collapsed buildings or structures. Our dogs are trained to find the smell of EVERY person that may be trapped\, instead of looking for one specific person. \nOur dogs come from all over – some were picked up as strays on the street and their lives have been turned around and they have gone from being rescued to being the rescuers. Other dogs were purpose-bred and purchased with the sole purpose of training them to be search and rescue dogs. \nWhat qualities do we look for in an Urban Search and Rescue Dog? We look for focus\, intensity\, fearlessness\, and most importantly of all…the desire to work and do the job. While it is a serious task\, the dogs love what they do! \nWe will be demonstrating some of the skills that a Search K9 must have in order to achieve certification and be deployment-ready. These skills include obedience\, agility\, direction and control\, and of course…search skills! \nhttps://www.wkrg.com/news/what-s-working/whats-working-k-9-disaster-teams-train-year-round_2018020709032950/957187295
