A Fond Farewell and an Exciting New Beginning

By July 17, 2025Education

After years of sparking curiosity, promoting healthy habits, and offering hands-on science exploration, our beloved My BodyWorks gallery is officially closing to make way for an exciting new chapter at the Exploreum. My BodyWorks, which was one of the first state-of-the-art health galleries in the US, opened to the public in 2009 – a little over a year after the first iPhone was released. In the past 16 years, technology has advanced at an unprecedented rate that has left My BodyWorks in the position of not being upgradeable.

Created in partnership with Infirmary Health System, BCBS of Alabama, and the DeBakey Foundation, My BodyWorks and Mission Nutrition empowered countless visitors to discover the wonders of the human body, physical fitness, and nutrition through engaging exhibits, interactive demonstrations, immersive field trips, and the unforgettable iHealthy Lab. From overnight camp-ins to school visits, this gallery has been a cornerstone of our mission and a cherished favorite among guests of all ages.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Infirmary Health System, BCBS of Alabama, and the DeBakey Foundation, for their unwavering support, partnership, and vision over the years.

But this is not goodbye—just the beginning of something new. As technology continues to evolve, so does our vision for a more dynamic and future-forward guest experience. In response, we are reimagining our health gallery and its location—transforming it into a sustainable, cutting-edge space with evergreen content and upgraded technology to allow for ongoing innovation and relevance. We look forward to working with our partners on this new, health-focused experience.

We’re also excited to share that the My BodyWorks gallery is being transformed into the Exploreum’s new Traveling Exhibit Gallery—a dynamic space that will host world-class, rotating exhibitions and bring fresh, global content to the Gulf Coast.

Over the years, the Exploreum has welcomed more than 60 national and international exhibitions, drawing millions of visitors to both our science center and the City of Mobile. This new travel gallery represents a bold step forward in continuing that legacy.

The updated space will accommodate larger, high-profile exhibits from around the world, feature state-of-the-art LED lighting to enhance the visitor experience, and provide improved infrastructure to support memorable and impactful STEM learning opportunities. This is more than a renovation—it’s an investment in the future of science education, tourism, and community engagement on the Gulf Coast.

Stay tuned for what’s next!
